Hi Scuba,

This will be a more difficult one.

For used computers you have limited options depending on your abilities:

- Chinese capable (either you, or a buddy you can trust)

You can search/ask the student forums at Tsinghua, such as www.newsmth.net, you can post ads around school, and you can ask the vendors at Zhong Guan Cun

- Non-Chinese capable

You will have to look through expat magazines such as That's Beijing for adverts on shops that build/sell computers. The chances of you finding a used one will be slim. You can also post ads at SIT cafe and Lush, plenty of foreigners go there that are around the Haidian area.

Of course if you buy a used computer from a local, your Windows will probably be in Chinese. It is best to just bring your own laptop from wherever you're coming from, or at least a hard drive with everything installed in your native language, then just buying the case, dvd, power, cables and etc here.

But Zhong Guan Cun is the place to go for anything computer related, I usually go to the Ding Hao tower, the other towers are fine too. Just be somewhat Chinese capable. Any non-native Chinese looking face will automatically receive higher quotations, so bargain hard.
