Generations of Little Emperors and Empresses
As some of you might have heard of or witnessed a trend in China since the enactment of the One Child Policy, that a new generation of Little Emperors and Empresses are emerging. I have also encountered a few of these living phenomenons during my travels within China. I can't help but wonder what the future of China might look like when these little Emperors and Empresses grow up and inherit their society. I have spoken to some mainland China residents on their thoughts regarding this issue and most of them wonder just like me, what will come of the future? Will any new trends emerge? What sort of impact, if any, will it have on this society? Beijing is one of the most dynamic places in the world. The capital of this vast country undergoes weekly change. Buildings get torn down one day, new structures materialize the next. The rich, the powerful and the poor mingle daily in an endless ebb and tide of progress. This is a tireless city with dreams higher than the heavens, burdens heavier than the greatest mountains, and a will to drive it forward. Having been here less than a year I have witnessed Beijing's dynamism, its multi-colored history and its hope for a beautiful future. That's Beijing magazine made a very insightful timeline of the city in 2006. I respectfully quote it here so that those who've missed it, or live elsewhere, can share in the experience of what Beijing has been through in just one year... Be first to comment this article | Add as favourites (150) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1549 |

The sun has departed letting the chill set in once again. At Tsinghua's Zijing dormitories the central heating has been shut off and we are left to our own defense against the early April cold. I sit huddled under the blankets for warmth surfing the net and trying to do work. During this idleness I have discovered something much worth sharing with everyone who has an interest in ancient Chinese culture. It is a piece written by Confucious on the 11 virtues of Jade, which probably contributes to why the Chinese love Jade so much...

This weekend I went with a friend of mine to his tailor shop (SEN LI & Mae) to check out the quality of their handiwork, fabrics and more. I was pleasantly surprised. I already had my own tailor and have some stuff made there, as well as other stuff on order. But I think I would be interested in trying out this tailor as well. I wrote a little review on my first impression at this shop. Here is the review and the directory entry for SEN LI & Mae Custom Tailoring. For those of you who might've asked about the famed sandstorms of Beijing, you might've heard many tell you that these sandstorms tend to come in the Spring, and that when they do, the whole world (well your current world of Beijing) feels as if it is covered under a thick blanket of yellow. Well, Beijing's turn has come. The news report has some uncomfortable news for Monday... Comments (1) | Add as favourites (125) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 901 |
