Kro's Nest

We made a trip to Kro\'s just outside Tsinghua West gate and as we suspected, the food was MUCH better served fresh than delivered. Pizzas are good even by US standards. Location was big and roomy though a bit loud, and the best thing is that Kro himself was making the pizzas. Highly recommended! Sizes are also by US standards, so a medium pizza will be enough for 4. Only complaint is that feta cheese is a bit rubbery so I would avoid the greek-type pizzas and salads if you are expecting authentic feta cheese.

I just went ahead and ordered from them as well. Some pizzas are a bit pricey, but they are worth the price - if they are warm. I think the best bargain is a Calzone, with (lots of) cheese and two toppings (actually "innings" Wink) at 40 RMB.

The problem is that they are being delivered in a thin plastic bag with no isolation whatsoever. I wanted to call them up and tell them, but got hung up

Hearing the high praise people gave to this establishment, we decided to try ordering the pizza for ourselves. The pizza arrived on time but the salad ordered with the pizza never left the kitchen. The pizza was in a box much bigger than the pizza itself

Each time I order takeaway from the Kro\'s Nest to Zijing dorms, the pizza is good but late. It takes at least 50 minutes, and a couple of friends of mine have had to wait more than two hours! To make matters worse, when it does turn up the pizza is often around congealing temperature. Kro\'s Nest pies taste authentic with optimally chewy crusts, but I wouldn\'t recommend ordering from here unless you have a microwave and a very zen sense of time.
