Zijing Dormitories is a good place to live for a Tsinghua Student. It is located at the NorthEast side of campus, minutes away from the central classroom building, shopping market, canteens, and student services. It is beside the NorthEast Gate known as "Dong1 Bei3 Men2". (To say it with a Beijing twang: Dong1 Bei3 Mer2). On the Tsinghua map, it's location is in square "C8". It is the place to meet people, participate in school activities and more. At the very least, one should live on campus for the first few months of the semester and make some friends, then move off into more comfortable housing elsewhere if desired.
Here are some tips on Opening a Room in Zijing Dormitories...
The Dormitory Management Office where students can open, close, change a room, as well as purchase washing machine credits is in Building 19 on the 1st floor (one floor above the Ground/0 Floor). The dormitory service desk there, is open 24 hours. First of all, you should familiarize yourself with the different types of rooms available. There are 3 types and they are listed in the Zijing Dormitory Types article. Second, when you have decided which type of dorm you want, drop by the 1st Floor of Building 19, to see which rooms are available. Make sure to bring the following items, "letter of acceptance" or "student ID", "passport", and "Money" in RMB, so that you can open a room. They will inform you of the vacancies per your dormitory type and it is recommended that before accepting a room, to visit it and physically check all the lights, the water, the water pressure, the TV, the toilet, the air-conditioning/heating to make sure it is working, check for mold and other damages in the room. It is useful to note that even-numbered rooms face south which are warmer in the winter and hotter in the summer. Odd-numbered rooms are the opposite. If the room you chose is unacceptable, it is possible to have the dormitory front desk to call Building 19 for you for permission to check another room, so that you don't have to run back and forth. Third, when you are satisfied with your room selection, pay your fees and get your key. Do one last check before moving your luggage into the room to make sure there are no existing liabilities to your wallet and your health waiting to happen. Payments are accepted in cash, debit card from a Chinese bank, or a VISA/Mastercard. Beware that using an overseas card may incur a 3% transaction fee. The fee you pay includes a deposit for damages and can be returned to you in full if there are no damages upon closing of room. Put your receipts in a safe place as you will need it for closing your room in the future. Zijing Dormitory has a discount on your rent the longer you stay. Please refer to the Zijing Dormitory Discount Rate article for more information. Refund Policy: Zijing Dormitories will refund any fees paid that are not used up by the time you check out.
Additional Notes: - If after you have opened a room and find it unsuitable, you can return to Building 19 to request a change, but this time you must provide a reason when asked. They frown upon frivolous changes.
- For extending your stay at Zijing, pay your room fee before the previous payment has finished, otherwise you may receive a warning and subsequent locking of your room. And you're done! Welcome to the Zijing Dormitories!
