Textbooks: As of Spring 2007, Tsinghua University Chinese Language Program, no longer provides textbooks for students. The students must now pay for textbooks out-of-pocket, even though the tuition was never reduced to reflect this change. Textbooks are packaged by Course Level and can be purchased in the 1st Week by your classes. Textbooks are non-refundable, exchanges are only allowed if the textbooks are in New Condition upon inspection, and with a slip from the Academic Office, Room 212, in Building C, stating that you have changed classes. After the 1st Week, students must venture off-campus to the HSK Bookstore to purchase/exchange textbooks.
Changing Classes: Students are to attend their assigned classes the first day of class, but have the option to switch up or down between classes/courses within the first week of school only. During this time students are encouraged to sit in on different classes to find the one most suited to their level. The current structure does not allow students to be officially enrolled in a mix of levels, though if you ask a teacher kindly if you can sit on, most of them will welcome you. To get an official grade for a subject that is not a part of your official schedule, you will have to consult the Academic Office in Room 212 of Building C. You are only allowed to switch classes once, so be sure of your decision. You will need to inform the Academic Office of your switch and provide them with a convincing reason. Elective Courses: These extra-curricular courses range from Tai-chi, Fabric Flower Art, Calligraphy, and more. These classes are available on weekday evenings after regular classes end. Information about class offerings, time, and place will be posted up on the Bulletin Boards of the C Building 2nd Floor, usually after the 2nd week of classes. You can sit in free for the 1st class and then pay within the 1st week to sign-up. If you have already paid for the class and decide to drop it, you can drop it within the 1st week and receive a refund. You will receive a grade for these Elective Classes.
